AngelFall by Susan Ee (Penryn and the End of Days)

It's been six weeks since angels of the apocalypse descended to demolish the modern world. Street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night. When warrior angels fly away with a helpless little girl, her seventeen-year-old sister Penryn will do anything to get her back.

Anything, including making a deal with an enemy angel.

Raffe is a warrior who lies broken and wingless on the street. After eons of fighting his own battles, he finds himself being rescued from a desperate situation by a half-starved teenage girl.

Traveling through a dark and twisted Northern California, they have only each other to rely on for survival. Together, they journey toward the angels' stronghold in San Francisco where she'll risk everything to rescue her sister and he'll put himself at the mercy of his greatest enemies for the chance to be made whole again.

Review; So, I read this whole series in 2 days. I may have jumped on the AngelFall bandwagon a little late but I caught it up and devoured the series in no times at all. Angels are not the saviours that they are portrayed to be, and Penryn, her sister and mother are scraping an existence in the barren lands of Northern California where it is human vs angel and human vs human for survival.

Penryn is a strong willed and stubborn female lead to this book, which is always great to have as there is a true lack in real strong female characters who can stand on their own. Penryn not only does that, she looks after her sister and even saves and kidnaps and angel. Throughout AngelFall it is clear that Penryn is determined and wants to see her world back to its former glory. Although she is more focused on retrieving her sister from the Angels and living together as a family. Even if it means blackmailing an Angel in the process.

Raffe is an Angel, one of the most powerful in the world. yet he has been attacked by rogue angels, and had his wings removed before being saved, then kidnapped by a daughter of man. Coming to terms with being without his wings and have to fashion a plan that might just restore them, Raffe has to use his wit, knowledge and technique to work together with this daughter of man. Raffe is independent and strong so rue's having to surrender some of his independence.

This book altogether encompasses all that you want in an angel, dystopia and kick-butt female lead. There is a true grit within Susan Ee's characters that will appeal to the reader with a touch of forbidden romance to spice it up. This novel is there to be devoured and with another two books after the first, any reader will be happy!
