The Internship is a 2013 American comedy film directed by Shawn Levy, written by Vince Vaughn and Jared Stern, and produced by Vaughn and Levy. The film stars Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson in their third film together after starring in the 2004 film Starsky & Hutch and the 2005 film Wedding Crashers. This is also the second collaboration of Levy, Vaughn, and Stern after the 2012 film The Watch. The main location of the film is the Googleplex, the real-life headquarters of Google near San Jose, California.
Review: So a film starring Vince Vaughn, who you may know from "Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story", "Wedding Crashers" and "Fred Clause", he is one of men in Hollywood known for his funny scripts and convincing acting. Co-starring is Owen Wilson who is known for "Night at the Museum", "Marley & me" along with lending his slick, self-absorbed voice too Lightning McQueen from the Pixar film "Cars". So from just knowing the actors you know you are in for laughs.
It opens with Billy and Nick losing their jobs and looking for a new career, this leads them to a Video-Interview too intern at Google. Although an unpopular decision they are let into the Google Internship and are quickly banded with the misfits of all the Interns, and although they initially are unable to work together, they are able to band together and compete to finish the Internship and win. The team themselves are all made to be very stereotypical. Stuart; glued to his phone all the time, Yo-yo; a Filipino-American with an overbearing Asian Mother, Neha; an Indian-American who is an enthusiast kinky-nerd things and Lyle; a Four-Year "googler" who uses modern-lingo to hide his insecurities.
So, this film is full of many references to cult fandoms, including Star Wars, X-Men and even Harry Potter. I mean, don't you want to take part in Muggle Quidditch too? These all lead to it being clear that Billy and Nick are in no way, up to speed with modern culture. This as you can imagine is quite the disadvantage when being at Google, a company on the cutting edge of technology with driver-less cars and google-glass. It is during Quidditch that Billy, using 80's references, manages to get this team to band together and believe in themselves.
So this film ultimately, is a film about striving what what you believe in, whatever your age. It also shows that people with plenty differences, can all band together and create something great. Yay, for self-belief and teamwork. It also has many funny moments and a touch of romance, making it a well rounded watch.
I really enjoyed watching this film, it gave me more than a few giggles and watching Billy and Nick's lack of knowledge, is really relatable. They are like a Dad, or Grandparent that has no semblance of how to work modern tech', or understand the lingo and it is left to you to explain how it all works.
